“So, we have three streams of voting: we have absentee voting, we have early voting, and then we have election day voting. So first, for absentee voting, we are up to 151,693 registered voters. That’s the highest we’ve ever had in the city of Grand Rapids.”
Hondorp says, as of Monday, almost 33,000 absentee ballots have been mailed to Grand Rapids residents, and of those, over 4,500 have been received by the city clerk. That’s a return rate of about 14.3%.
Hondorp also reminded residents that there will be four early voting locations for city residents October 26th through November 3rd: Saint Peter and Paul School, GRPS University, Ottawa Hills High School, and DeVos Place.
“Any voter in Grand Rapids can go to any of those four locations. It’s not like it’s precinct selective just like it is on Election Day. So, if you live in the First Ward and you happen to be out on 28th Street shopping area, you can go over to Ottawa Hills High School on Burton and do that as well, or if you’re downtown you can just walk into DeVos Place.”
Hondorp also reminded residents that, due to Stocking School’s closure, the new polling location for Precinct 11 is Crossroads Bible Church.
Voters may also bring their absentee ballot with them to any polling location and cast it in the tabulator instead of mailing it in.
