There was a noticeable police presence around the East Kentwood Public Schools campus Friday morning as deputies investigated reports of a shooting in Gaines Township

Just after 3:30 AM, Kent County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of 60th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue on a call of shots fired.

They didn’t find anyone injured but did discover shell casings outside a home on Campus Park Drive.

They say there were no indications anyone in the community was in danger, but detectives worked closely with the East Kentwood Public Schools’ Security Team and School Resource Officers to increase presence around the school and reassure students and staff of their safety.

They are also asking if anyone in the area has doorbell or security camera footage that may have captured something related to this incident, please contact the Kent County Sheriff’s Office or Silent Observer.
