Ronald McDonald House Charities asks for help stocking pantry

Ronald McDonald House Charities

Grand Rapids’ Ronald McDonald House is asking for the public’s to help replenish the food pantries used by families living at the home while a loved one is receiving care at an area hospital

Ronald McDonald House Charities West Michigan provides breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to the families staying there. In July alone there were 47 families from 30 countries averaging 14 nights per visit, with one family staying 215 nights.

“We’ve taken care of almost 500 people so far this year and we just want to make sure they have access to everything they need so they only have to focus on the health of their child.”

President and CEO Ellen Carpenter says the items most needed are individually packaged snacks like chips or granola bars, rice, easy meals like soup or Hamburger Helper, spices, sauces, dessert mixes, canned vegetables and beans.

“Pasta is a really welcome comfort food we provide at least a couple of times a week.”

A donation drive was held Tuesday, but Carpenter says donations of food or money can be dropped off anytime.

“If it’s easier to use Amazon, you can directly ship it here so then you don’t even have to drop it off.”

The address and a wish list are posted on the Ronald McDonald House Charities West Michigan website.

ADDRESS FOR DONATIONS:

1323 Cedar St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503
