“Well, hello Michigan. It’s good to be here.”
Two days after the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump, Governor Walz held a rally at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Walz spoke to a crowd of hundreds, focusing on the major differences between his running mate and the former president.
“This is what true leadership looks like, and she says this time and time again, and I love it. A mark of true leadership is not who beats people down, it’s who lifts people up.”
With less than 60 days until Election Day, Walz rallied campaign volunteers and supporters, telling them a Harris-Walz win will not come easy.
“This is going to be a razor-thin election. We’re still the underdogs in this thing, but here’s the beautiful thing. We get the opportunity to affect that outcome. We get the opportunity to decide in 54 days what type of country we want.”
According to organizers, the Harris-Walz campaign has opened 52 campaign offices across the state. The campaign hopes offices in counties like Ottawa and Livingston, which voted for Trump in 2020, will expand on opportunities for Democratic growth throughout the state.
“What wins races is people who care enough to get on the ground and get the work done and take that debate performance, take those resources that have been out there, take that energy, and funnel it down into voter contact, get out the vote efforts, and balance.”
