The approved Kent County budget for 2025 totals nearly $624 million and marks a 6.6% increase from the 2024 budget.
It allocates nearly $14 million to capital improvements including facility and security enhancements, playground equipment replacement at Wabasis and Millennium Parks, and electronic filing software to improve court operations.
Public safety remains a key focus, with $1.7 million allocated to hire 20 additional correction officers to enhance security and care within the jail.
Nearly a million dollars is allocated to support 14 patrol officers.
The budget also provides for establishing a new 63rd District Court judgeship and supporting court personnel to better manage caseloads.
There is a 3 percent general salary increase resulting from the labor agreements completed last year, aimed at attracting and retaining high-quality employees.
The Board also allocated $10.5 million in Ready by Five Millage funds and $16.8 million in Senior Millage funds.
Current property taxes are the largest source of revenue, making up 32.4%.
