36-year-old Tara Treesh of Ludington pleaded no contest Wednesday to one count of Second-Degree Child Abuse, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
The plea accompanies an agreement extended by the Court. In pleading no contest, Treesh will be sentenced to anywhere from 20 months to 10 years in prison.
Treesh was charged in November 2022 with one count each of Second-Degree Child Abuse, Maintaining a Drug House and Possession of Methamphetamine.
In December 2021, Treesh brought her unresponsive 2-year-old son to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. The child had to be transferred to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids due to the severity of his injuries. There, he was placed in intensive care and required surgery. Treesh claimed the child may have fallen from his crib, but a pediatric specialist indicated the injuries were not consistent with such a fall.
Treesh has since given up her parental rights. According to Nessel’s office, the child is now in a safe environment.
Sentencing for Treesh is scheduled for September 24th in the 51st Circuit Court of Mason County.
