Michigan DNR encouraging everyone to take advantage of “Three Free” Weekend

David Kenyon, Michigan DNR

You’ll have two full days when you can grab a fishing rod, ride the off-road trails, visit state parks, boating access sites and other outdoor locations — all free of charge this weekend.

Only in June does the Department of Natural Resources offer up such a deal to Michigan residents and out of state visitors.

This weekend, you’ll have two full days when you can grab a fishing rod, ride the off-road trails and visit state parks, boating access sites and other outdoor locations — all free of charge.

In a news release, Department of Natural Resources Director Scott Bowen says, quote “We’re excited to celebrate ‘Three Free’ Weekend, a time when everyone gets to enjoy and take part in some of Michigan’s best outdoor recreation opportunities.”

On Saturday and Sunday, June 8th and 9th, you can fish without a license, legally ride four thousand miles of state designated routes without an ORV license or trail permit and you can enter the states 103 state parks and more without the Recreation passport.

Free Fishing and Free ORV weekends each take place on back-to-back days twice a year, but the "Three Free" Weekend happens only in June.
