Ottawa Co. deputies could soon have body and dash cams

The Ottawa County sheriff is asking the board to approve a multi-million-dollar multi-year contract with Axon Inc. for 200 body cameras, 120 in car cameras and system software

“Ottawa county should already have them.”

At this week’s meeting, Dean Brand was one of several speakers urging Ottawa County Commissioners to appropriate the money to buy deputies body and dash cams.

“Should already be activated period.”

The sheriff is asking the board to approve a multi-million-dollar multi-year contract with Axon Inc. for 200 body cameras, 120 in car cameras and system software. Kelly Nagel says it will be money well spent.

“I don’t know why your cops aren’t wearing body cameras i remember watching Cops as a teenager and they had dash cams. spend the money.”

The county will also need a few additional people to monitor and maintain the body and in car camera system. Orlando Estrada thinks they can afford it.

“Ottawa County is the 4th wealthiest county out of 83 counties in the state of Michigan.”

The Sheriff says the body and in-car camera system could be in place within a few months.

“it’s important because people can be falsely accused of things that may have never taken place.”
