Democratic challenger Chris Kleinjans beat Republican incumbent Lucy Ebel during a special District 2 recall election on May 7th by 20 percentage points, or about 840 votes.
Kleinjans joins the board today after official certification of election results.
Kleinjans will be one of only two democrats on the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners, the other being District 3’s Doug Zylstra.
Ottawa Impact-affiliated commissioners hold the majority of the 11-member board through the end of its current term. Chair Joe Moss, Vice Chair Sylvia Rhodea and Commissioners Gretchen Cosby, Kendra Wenzel, Roger Belknap and Allison Miedema are all seeking re-election this year and face primary challengers in August.
Lucy Ebel has also filed to run in the primary.
Kleinjans will be sworn in at the Filmore Complex in West Olive. After the ceremony, he will attend his fist board of commissioners meeting.
