A Deer Tracks Junction Adventure Park employee remains in the hospital after an accident involving a giraffe

The owners of Deer Tracks Junction Adventure Park in Cedar Spring are asking for prayers across social media after the owner’s son was injured in a workplace accident.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, a 27-year-old employee was climbing a ladder in the giraffe enclosure when the giraffe hit the ladder, causing the employee to fall.

He was taken by ambulance to the hospital with severe injuries.

In a public statement on social media, park owners write “We are reaching out to our community for prayer. Tyler, who is a son, father, husband, and a critical component to this business, had an accident on Friday, April 19th. He is in critical condition in the ICU with a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury)”

An update Wednesday reads “Regarding the tragic accident, honestly, we don’t know what happened. What we do know is that Kelly and Tyler were working in the giraffe enclosure. The giraffe had been shifted to an empty enclosure prior to them entering.”

It goes on to explain the owner turned at a loud noise to see his son falling from the ladder and tried to catch him.

Deer Tracks Junction is currently closed, set to open for the season around Memorial Day weekend.
