Sophomore Sarah Moraw won the Big Ten beam title with a 9.925

“The energy in the area was incredible.”

West Ottawa High School graduate Sarah Moraw is now a college sophomore at the University of Minnesota. Her gymnastics team competed in East Lansing last weekend in the Big Ten Championships.

“We talk a lot about “being history” and kind of taking a lot from those who came before us and continuing to leave a legacy for those who come after so I think this weekend was the definition of that.”

Moraw won her first Big Ten title with a 9.925 on the balance beam in front of her friends and family at the competition.

“At the beginning of the year we set goals for the end of the season and one of my goals was to be Big Ten Champion on beam so to see that come full-circle was incredible.”

The Gophers took second place to Michigan State with Michigan in third place and Ohio State fourth. Next for Moraw’s team: regionals in Arkansas next week.

“There’s a lot more in our team and we’re not done yet so we’re excited to see where that future will bring us.”
