Custom online sessions for those who have served in the military are now available through a MDHHS and GetSetUp partnership.

GetSetUp is an online community of older adults that offers interactive programming by experts on topics like physical, mental and social health, re-skilling or up-skilling for jobs, and getting comfortable with constantly changing technology.

“We have created a custom series of classes to help look at topics that are of particular importance to veterans and military service members.”

Tammy Lemmer is a state assistant administrator for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and says the GetSetUp platform is interactive which helps with social isolation.

“The workshops are designed to be presented live with live facilitators, or guides as they’re called, and it does create an opportunity in that moment to ask questions and there can be some sharing and learning that happens among the participants.”

They are also recorded for on-demand viewing later.

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency shows 71% of the state’s veterans are age 55 or older. The new partnership allows another way to reach that growing number of older veterans, and offer support to them and their caregivers. The agency is working with libraries and services for the aging to help with access.

“We are excited that there has been such a popular response to the platform.”

The programs are free and more information is available at .https://www.getsetup.io/schedule/browse?utm_campaign=&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
