Tension over bipartisan school safety legislation flared up in the Michigan House this week.

The package covers topics like tipline reporting… emergency planning… and school security.

It’s been in committee for a year without a hearing. But sponsors—like Democratic Representative Kelly Breen—say there’s significant work happening in the background.

“I believe we do have some of the bills will be ready sooner than others and I hope to proceed with those probably within the next few weeks.”

This week… House Minority Leader Matt Hall unsuccessfully tried to push the bills from committee. Spokesperson Jeremiah Ward says work should’ve been happening during committee hearings.

“Well that’s what the committee process is for. So let’s have hearings on the bills.”

House Democrats and Republicans have been sparring over which bills see votes since the chamber is at a temporary even split.
