On Saturday, Kent County Community Action leadership, staff, volunteers, and residents will take part in the 36th annual Walk for Warmth. Kent County Commissioners will also be participating in the opening program. The event is held to raise funds to keep the heat on for numerous families in Kent County. Here’s Gustavo Perez, Director of Kent County Community Action.

“We do this event to one spread awareness about the need. We have a lot of households in our community in Kent County and West Michigan that struggle to pay bills to keep up with the utility cost, especially the heat. And we want to make sure that no household that has to worry about keeping the heat on during the winter months.

Perez says the need is growing and all proceeds go directly back to Kent County families.

“The donations we receive allow us to supplement and support families for a longer period. It also catches some of those families that don’t qualify but they’re still struggling.”

Perez says anyone can participate by walking, sponsoring, or donating. The walk will be held on Saturday, February 10 with registration at 9am. You can find more information about the walk at accesskent.com/walkforwarmth.
