Kentwood-based Fifth Wheel Freight offers full-service logistics along with ground and air freight services. It currently employs 157 workers. As demand grows, the company is incorporating new technologies and automation. A nationwide expansion plan calls for more employees and a new headquarters. Fifth Wheel Freight considered satellite offices in Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee, but will now move forward with a West Michigan location for a new flagship headquarters.
FWF will invest $40 million into the project creating 352 jobs in the first three years. Positions include logistics consultants, sales executives, business development representatives, and technology specialists. Nonprofit regional economic development corporation, The Right Place, and Plant Moran Realpoint are assisting FWF. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is supporting it with a $2 million performance-based grant.
