The AG says he allegedly overcharged for tree removal after weather disasters, and after agreeing to stop, opened a second company to continue illegal practices

Michigan attorney General Dana Nessel is suing David Foster of Rockford, alleging his company, Michigan Choice Tree Service, was grossly overcharging for emergency services. The suit also claims there’s a pattern of confusing customers about prices, and misleading them about their responsibility for costs not covered by insurance.

After an investigation last year, the AG’s office shows in March Foster agreed to give customers written quotes and not violate the Consumer Protection Act.

But now the AG says later that same month, Foster created a new company called Storm Support Emergency Tree Removal and continued the same illegal practices.

The AG cited examples in which customers were charged more than $23,000 for removing three branches from a roof in Lansing, more than $26,000 for removing a tree from a house in Cedar Springs, and more than $39,000 for removing a tree that fell on a house in Grand Rapids.

Foster has until January 25th to respond to the suit.
