Attorney General Dana Nessel embarks on listening tour as AG office cracks down on elder abuse

WGVU

In an effort to combat elder abuse, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel kicked off a 10-community listening Tour in Grand Rapids Friday, as the listening tour began with the Attorney General’s office charging 3 separate caregivers with abusing seniors.

According to the AG’s office, at least 73,000 older adults in Michigan are victims of elder abuse at the hands of individuals entrusted to care for them, as abusers will go to great lengths to harm members of the senior community in the forms of physical and psychological abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Cesiah Huitron is charged with not following a resident’s care plan and consequently dropping and injuring the resident, Kristen Chatman is charged with two counts of misdemeanor Vulnerable Adult Abuse, and Kari Ann Yakes is charged for embezzling thousands of dollars from an elder under her watch.

All 3 were caregivers in assisted living homes.
