The commission is planning to appeal that court ruling requiring several metro-Detroit state House and Senate districts to be redrawn.
But in the meantime, the group replaced its previous Voting Rights Act expert who quit last week.
Commission attorney David Fink was blunt about its options. He says without Voting Rights Act counsel.
“The chances that the commission will be able effectively to keep control or to have control of the mapping and districting process during this remedial phase is far less likely.”
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit are asking the court to appoint someone to redraw districts for the commission.
