The ruling comes in a lawsuit against the Detroit-centric districts.
The plaintiffs claimed the state’s redistricting commission drew those boundaries mainly with race in mind in violation of the U-S Constitution’s 14th Amendment.
The court agreed invalidating those districts and requiring they be redrawn before the next election.
That could be arduous work for the commission redrawing metro-Detroit is likely to have repercussions for the rest of the state.
The commission says it’s too early to say whether it’ll appeal the ruling.
Meanwhile the group is down a member after a resignation this week. A new person is scheduled to be picked from a list of candidates via random drawing in early January.
