During the six-month pilot program, the state paid more than 160 thousand dollars in signing bonuses.

The state of Michigan is considering whether to continue offering signing bonuses for certain hard to fill roles

The state's Civil Service Commission approved a pilot program earlier this year to give at least 25-hundred dollars in signing bonuses to newly hired auditors, financial analysts and occupational safety advisors.

Liza Estlund Olson is the director of the office of the state employer. She says the program has proven to be successful.

“So instead of just saying a pilot, we said, well, let's, let's continue it. But departments have to have money in their budget, and they have to decide if they want to use the program in any given year.”
