Three West Michigan men face charges in April 14 homicide

Gemir Blakely (19), Omarion Dixon (18), and Cartier Lawrence-Murray (20) face open murder charges, among others, in the death of 20-year-old Julius Hight.

Two individuals, Gemir Blakely (19), and Omarion Dixon (18), were located and arrested yesterday by members of the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force for the April 14 th murder of 20-year-old Julius Hight.

In addition to Blakely and Dixon, a third suspect, Cartier Lawrence-Murray (20) was already in custody on unrelated charges. All three are facing charges of open murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and assault with intent to murder, among other charges.

“Any loss of life due to murder is tragic for our community, but especially so when a young person is the victim. I hope these arrests bring some measure of comfort and closure to Julius’ loved ones,” said Chief Eric Winstrom with the Grand Rapids Police Department. “I commend the GRPD Major Case team and our federal partners for their dedication and determination to pursue justice in this case.”

On April 14 th GRPD officers responded to reports of a shooting on the city’s southeast side. Police found two victims: a 15-year-old male with non-life-threatening conditions and Hight who, after being transported to a hospital, later died from his injuries.
