Prosecutors say Ethan Crumbley planned and calmly carried out the killings, wounding seven others in the process, than knelt and surrendered before law enforcement arrived…so he could enjoy watching the aftermath of the carnage.
They say that means Crumbley deserves the harshest penalty possible under Michigan law; life without the chance for parole.
But Crumbley’s defense attorneys argue the teen was traumatized by a lack of concern from his parents, who ignored his cries for help with his mental health and instead bought him the gun used in the crime.
They also say Crumbley is so young his brain is still developing…and he could be rehabilitated.
Judge Kwame Rowe is scheduled to render his decision on the matter Friday.
Crumbley is set to be sentenced in early December.
