That would be no surprise from a Democratic governor who’s a fervent abortion rights advocate.
Loren Khogali of the ACLU of Michigan says this would align state laws with the reproductive rights amendment adopted last year by voters. Many of the restrictions were adopted by the Legislature and signed by Republican governors going back decades.
“There have been dozens of restrictions to access to abortion placed on the books over many, many years.”
The Legislature’s slim Democratic majorities have already voted to strike some dormant abortion laws, including a 1931 law to criminalize abortion that was rendered unenforceable by Proposal 3.
