The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has placed digital ads in other states to call attention to Michigan’s protections for abortion and LGBTQ rights.

The MEDC ads are aimed at poaching businesses and workers from half a dozen faster-growing states that are led by Republicans. The MEDC’s Courtney Overbeigh Martinez says the goal is to showcase Michigan’s protections for abortion and LGBTQ rights.

“These digital ads are running in target markets all about promoting people and personal rights here in Michigan.”

The ads were placed in Indiana, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Georgia and Tennessee. The MEDC also hopes the ads will help Michigan hit Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s population growth goals. The initial buy cost the MEDC 30 thousand dollars, which is small change compared to many of the state’s other business incentives.
