As health officials urge kids to get vaccinated before returning to school, commission looking to make it easier to skip

The Ottawa Board of Commissioners on Tuesday will consider a resolution that would require the county’s department of public health to educate parents how to avoid the required vaccinations of their children before returning to school.

If passed, the “Resolution on Childhood Vaccine Waivers for School and Childcare” would provide instructions for anti-vaccination parents on how to obtain a vaccine waiver.

The resolution, written by Ottawa County Board Chair Joe Moss and co-founder of the far-right leaning Pac-group “Ottawa Impact,” comes a week after the department of public health sent out a press release calling for parents to get their children fully vaccinated before the new school year this Fall.

Prior to being elected to the County’s Board of Commissioners and appointment as chair last January, Moss had been a vocal critic of government ordered mandates during the pandemic, specifically, children being required to wear masks in the classroom.
