The Ottawa County Republican Party has passed a resolution to declare 2023 as “The Year of the Bible” as the political division between the right and left on the lakeshore is seemingly getting wider by the day.
The resolution, posted by the party’s executive committee on their website, says that the Holy Scriptures were instrumental in forming both Ottawa County, and the nation back in 1776, and elected leaders should be using the Bible as a guidepost to “navigate the ever-turbulent waters that we face today as a society.
What that means, or what the resolution actually does or changes remains somewhat of a mystery, however, it does perhaps offer some insight into the intentions elected leaders in Ottawa County may have.
Back in January, a number of The County’s Board of Commissioners were sworn in for the first time, the majority of which had been endorsed by the GOP Pac-Group known as “Ottawa Impact.” The group is known for its far-right leaning ideology, while the group’s co-founder, Joe Moss, now sits as the Ottawa County Board Chair.
With nearly all of the of board members having ties to Ottawa Impact, (there is only one Democrat commissioner as well) the group has had little resistance to imposing its will on the county since taking over.
