American Seating new headquarters rendering

American Seating has been a mainstay on the City of Grand Rapids northwest end of town. It’s began manufacturing school furniture in 1886. Over the years it provided seating solutions for churches, auditoriums, and stadiums. Transportation seating was produced in 1931. Today, this is the company’s focus. American Seating is manufacturing most the nation’s city bus services seats. It’s also producing seats for rail systems.

Product demand is accelerating new hires. American Seating says so far this year new job growth is 7-percent and projected to increase another 10-percent.

With a focus on meeting demand, American Seating is making a short move to the former Steelcase campus on the city’s southside. Here it will renovate the 210,000 square foot facility transforming it into what the company says will be a state-of-the art hub for transportation-seating product design and manufacturing.

American Seating says its hiring at the new location strategically located near The Rapid bus routes.
