The state’s GOP leadership approved a proposal to select 16 of the 55 total delegates based on who wins the party’s primary election.
The rest would be decided in about a dozen district caucuses.
That differs from recent elections, when all the Republican delegates were allotted based on who won the GOP primary.
Some critics complain the caucus process un-fairly favors former President, and current candidate, Donald Trump.
But party leaders say they had to change, because state Democrats moved Michigan’s primary elections to an earlier date, which violates the Republican National Committee’s rules.
The committee must still approve the new GOP delegate plan.
