The public is invited to give feedback on the GRFD candidates

City of Grand Rapids

The Grand Rapids community has had an opportunity to meet the Grand Rapids Fire Chief candidates and now, the city wants to know what you think

There are two experienced fire service professionals that are being considered for Grand Rapids’ next fire chief.

Dr. Brad Brown, deputy chief of support services for the Grand Rapids Fire Department, and Eloy Vega, fire chief and emergency management coordinator for the City of Port Neches and former Fire District Chief of Laredo, Texas, are the top two fire chief candidates following a nationwide recruitment.

Each has taken part in a series of interviews with City and community stakeholders and the public has had an opportunity to meet them and now, City Manager Mark Washington wants to know their thoughts on the candidates.

A news release says as part of his efforts to obtain a wide spectrum of public input before selecting the City’s next fire chief, Washington is launching a survey to accompany the March 29 Fire Chief Candidate forum. The responses to the Grand Rapids Community Forum-Post Digital Comment Card can be submitted through 5 p.m. this Friday, March 31. Those who don’t have access to the Internet and want to share their thoughts can call 311 or 616.456.3000.

Public input gathered from the survey and the forum will be considered as part of the overall fire chief interview process.
