You have an opportunity to meet those who want to be the next Grand Rapids Fire Chief.   There’s a candidate forum being held soon

If you’re interested in meeting the finalists for the next Grand Rapids fire chief, you can do so next week, Wednesday, March 29th.   A fire chief candidate forum is being held in the 9th floor City Commission Chambers in City Hall.

A news release says the City and its hired executive search firm, GOVHR will host the 6:30 to 8:30 question and answer forum.  IT will also be cablecast and streamed live on the City’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

The candidates’ names and professional background information will be released and posted on the City website later this week.

City Manager Mark Washington says quote,  “While it is ultimately my responsibility to hire a fire chief, residents will continue to have a voice in the process of selecting our next chief,” he adds, “Public safety and resident engagement is essential for a thriving community, and the next fire chief will be fundamentally responsible for carrying out the vision articulated in the City’s and department’s strategic plans.

Once the forum is over there will be a web survey for residents to participate in through March 31st

The nationwide recruitment for Grand Rapids’ next fire chief began in January following Fire Chief John Lehman’s retirement announcement.
