Officials say the fire is located inside the Safe Harbor Great Lakes Marina north of downtown Muskegon on Lakeshore Drive.
According to a Facebook post by the Muskegon Professional Firefighters Union Local 370, heavy smoke is pouring out of the large boat storage facility as a coordinated effort is being made by several fire crews across Muskegon County who are assisting in the effort including Norton Shores, Muskegon Heights, Muskegon Township, and North Muskegon.
So far, there have been no reports of injuries at this time, and the extent of the damage remains unknown.
According to the MPFU a number of spectators have shown up and are interfering with efforts to battle the fire; as a result, officials are asking the public to keep their distance, and do not travel to the area unless you live in the surrounding neighborhoods.
There is no word on what triggered the fire; WGVU will update this story as more information becomes available.
