Grand Haven Public Safety said several locations in the southeast section of the city were vandalized with graffiti in late February. Locations included Mulligan’s Hollow Imagination Station, the Lake Avenue retaining wall, the City of Grand Haven sign at Sheldon street and other street signs throughout the city.

The investigation remains open. Three male juveniles, two age 15 and one age 16 -- all from Grand Haven -- have been identified as suspects. A search warrant was served in early March and evidence was seized.

“We’re hoping that the parents of the three cooperate and ensure that the boys take responsibility for their actions. It’s best in the long run for their future if they do and it’s best for the community to have closure with this case,” Director of Public Safety, Jeff Hawke, said in a statement. “Many in the community were heartbroken and outraged when this happened as they had poured their time and treasure into the project when the Imagination Station was modernized a few years ago. City of Grand Haven DPW spent many hours removing the graffiti. Clean up costs will total in the thousands.”

City workers spent hours spent hours removing the graffiti. Hawke said clean up costs will total “in the thousands.”
