Motel, once a human trafficking hot spot, now an eyesore in Roosevelt Park

The owners of a closed-down motel in Muskegon County---once allegedly used for sex trafficking--- have once again been ordered to secure the structure.

It’s been nearly four years since a judge ordered the Victory Inn and Suites Motel in Roosevelt Park to permanently shut its doors. The decision came in response to multiple complaints of human trafficking and other building code violations.

After the motel’s closing, the building caught fire in 2022, making the structure easy to enter…subsequently, complaints have been made that criminal activity is still place inside its abandoned walls.

Now Muskegon County Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Hoopes has given the motel owner, Salam Shaja, 45 days to secure the building again, shutting up its doors and boarding up its windows.

The motel has now become an eyesore to locals in the community. WGVU reached out to Roosevelt Park officials to see if efforts are being made to demolish the structure or repurpose the building. At the time of this report, calls had not been returned.

The Motel owner also could not be reached for comment.
