Voters this November in Clarksville, Lake Odessa, Sunfield and Woodland will be asked to consider a new millage that would provide $64 Million in funding to Lakewood Public Schools.
The proposal is for 7-mills, and if passed, Lakewood officials say funds would go towards updating safety and security systems, including securing the main entrances to schools, replacing the high school stadium’s track and tennis courts, while re-imagining the school’s libraries to be fully functional media centers for students.
In addition, the bond would set aside $1 million for performing and visual arts programs.
Dr. Stephen Skalka is the district’s superintendent. He says, the school’s bus fleet and other infrastructure issues would also be addressed.
“Put another way, the school is going to purchase buses, fix roofs, and replace boilers to get students to and from school safely, and keep them warm and dry.”
Dr. Skalka said the recent fiscal responsibility and A+ credit rating according to Standard and Poor’s allowed the district to put the bond proposal on the ballot without having to raise anyone’s taxes if passed.
