The Supreme Court said the board’s only responsibility was to certify whether the petition campaign gathered enough signatures. People cheered as the four-person, bipartisan board voted to certify the abortion rights campaign had gathered a record 752,288 signatures.
Republican board chair Tony Daunt said there was never a question he and other members would comply with the decision.
“When the court speaks, it’s our duty to follow that and to conduct our business,” said Daunt.
The board also approved a sweeping voting rights proposal for the November ballot.
