A Michigan charter school group is pushing back against new rules from the U-S Department of Education.
In a lawsuit the “Michigan Association of Public School Academies” argues the new criteria would keep charter organizations from receiving grant funding.
Attorney Caleb Kruckenberg says there are three main concerns.
“One of the things they require, that the local school district has committed to work with the charter school, that’s a problem when certain school districts just refuse to cooperate.”
The new rules also require charter groups to show a community need before they can receive grant funding. That includes an analysis of a school’s projected socio-economic diversity.
The U-S Education Department says it doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
