A liberal advocacy group is part of a lawsuit filed in the Michigan Court of Claims about one of this year’s Republican gubernatorial primary candidates.

Progress Michigan wants a judge to order that votes for Republican gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley won’t be counted.

That’s because of Kelley’s alleged participation in the January 6th insurrection at the US Capitol.

Kelley is one of five candidates running in the August GOP primary. Michigan Republican Party spokesman Gustavo Portela says the lawsuit is just an effort to interfere in the GOP primary.

He notes the lawsuit was filed by former Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer.
