Spring Lake Public Schools Tuesday announced the district's High School Principal has resigned after being accused of secretly changing the grades of his own children and other students.
According to Spring Lake Public Schools, High School Principal Mike Gilchrist is out after the district's board of education accepted his resignation on February 10th.
According to an investigation report posted on the district's website, Gilchrist is accused of changing student's grades without proper authorization and without discussing it with the students teachers.
The district says that Gilchrist is out as principal, partly because he had initially testified that he had “never changed a grade” in his life, however, as the investigation unfolded, the district said Gilchrist came clean and admitted to changing the grades.
Last month, Gilchrist was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. According to the district, and interim will fill the role until a search is launched to find Gilchrist's replacement.
