Grand Valley State University outlined its strategy of masking, testing and vaccinations designed to reinforce its health and safety plan heading into the fall semester.
It begins Monday when anyone entering campus buildings will be required to wear a face covering – vaccinated or not.
There are few exceptions for private offices, dorm rooms and when eating.
On a daily basis, members of the GVSU community are required to self-report their health condition and vaccine status. Those failing to do so must be tested weekly for COVID exposure.
It’s expected the Food and Drug Administration will give final approval of COVID-19 vaccines by Labor Day.With that in mind, GVSU is requiring all faculty, staff and students to be vaccinated by September 30th. The university asks for proof of religious or medical exemption.
Greg Sanial is Vice President for Finance and Administration and Director of the Virus Action Team. His message for anyone defying the September 30th deadline.
“I think in the end, if they’re absolutely refusing to get vaccinated, we would expect them to seek their education elsewhere or employment elsewhere.”
Sanial expressed there will be steps taken before reaching that point by engaging with and educating students and employees.
