Michigan Secretary of State: election held 'fairly,' subpeonas not necessary

Associated Press

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s spokesman says subpoenas are not necessary for Republican lawmakers to get information on how elections were handled. That’s after the House and Senate oversight committees held a rare Saturday meeting to vote on subpoena power. The Republican-led House and Senate oversight committees held a joint meeting to adopt subpoena power in votes that broke along party lines. GOP lawmakers say they have questions about polling places and a mass mailing that reminded voters they can vote absentee and included an absentee ballot application.

Secretary of State spokesperson Jake Rollow says that mailing was upheld in court.

“Our election was conducted fairly, accurately, and transparently, and the results reflect the will of Michigan voters.”

Rollow also says most of the information Republicans are seeking is already publicly available. The weekend hearing took place as President Trump and Michigan Republican Senate candidate are refusing to concede.
