Another homicide in Grand Rapids over the weekend, and after Police Chief called for an end to the violence on Friday. The murder Sunday brings the number of homicides this year in the city of Grand Rapids to 20, and that is two more than the total amount in 2019, and it’s still July.

At 2:20 a.m. Sunday, officers were flagged down on the 700 block of Turner Ave. NW where authorities say they found an unconscious adult victim with multiple apparent Gun Shot Wounds. Officers initiated CPR prior to paramedics, but the victim, a 24-year old male, died.

The murder comes after Grand Rapids Police Chief on Friday pleaded with the community to put an end to the increasing gun violence.

“It’s unacceptable,” Payne said. “It’s unacceptable, and it has to stop.”

The homicide topped a violent weekend in Grand Rapids that included a stabbing, and two other gun shootings—one of them in the victim’s head. All three victims are in stable condition.

No arrests have been made in any of the cases.
