With Michigan’s Democratic Primary less than 24 hours away, Former Vice President Joe Biden campaigned in Grand Rapids Monday morning before heading to Detroit. Biden spoke at Cherry Health- Heart of the City Health Center, where he called the Affordable Care Act the “signature legislative achievement” of the Obama Administration where Biden served as Vice President for 8 years.
Biden kept the speech short at just under 9 minutes, but used part of his time to criticize opponent Senator Bernie Sanders for his Medicaid for All proposal.
“The bottom line is this, while this election is about getting rid of Donald Trump, its also about seeking and seizing the opportunities that have been made available in the next steps forward in health care,” Biden said. “I am not running to destroy Obama care and start from scratch, and wait and hope for something to pass. I’m running to strengthen it and get to universal coverage quickly and effectively.”
According to an EPIC-MRA poll released Monday, Biden holds a comfortable lead over Bernie Sanders heading into Tuesday’s primary, with 51 percent of those polled saying they would vote for Biden, while 21 percent said they would vote for Sanders. 13 percent said they were undecided, while 9 percent said they would vote for another candidate.
Polls open at 7am Tuesday and close at 8pm.
