Decision 2019: Milinda Ysasi running for city commission in Grand Rapids 2nd Ward

Milinda Ysasi

Milinda Ysasi is a lifelong Grand Rapidian, who currently is the executive director of The Source, a non-profit employee support organization in Grand Rapids. She also serves on a number of committees and boards in Grand Rapids including the civil service board, the civilian appeals board, and the Mayor’s Racial Equity Initiative. Her endorsements include current 2nd Ward City Commissioner Ruth Kelly, and Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss. I asked her what qualities she will bring to the commission if elected this November.

“I bring a really strong background in the private sector as well as working for a local non-profit, and have served on many boards at the city level and commission,” Ysasi said. “So, I will take all of that experience, and understanding of broad city issues, and be a reliable and responsive voice for everyone who lives in the 2nd ward.”

And what issues or challenges facing the city are most important to you personally?

“Well I think that the reality of the city is that the people that are living here are always changing, and their experiences are varied,’ Ysasi said. “As I have talked to people across the ward, it’s really about making sure that the quality of life here in Grand Rapids stays high, and for me, the issue is how do we make sure that it stays high for everyone in the entire city,” she said.

Voters in the second ward will decide between Ysasi and Wendy Falb on Tuesday, November 5th.
