United States Vice President Mike Pence headlined a rally in West Michigan Monday evening for United States Senate candidate John James and Michigan gubernatorial candidate Bill Schuette.
While the two both currently trail in the polls, the Vice President called on Michigan Republican voters to get out and pull an upset like they did in the 2016 Presidential election.
“We made history in 2016 in Michigan and we’re going to make history again in 2018 when we elect John James and Bill Schuette,” Pence said.
Billed as the “Kent County Get out the Vote Rally” Vice President Pence began his speech at the DeltaPlex Arena on a somber tone by addressing the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburg.
“America mourns for eleven Americans, their precious families and for the injured in the wake of this terrible attack. What happened in Pittsburg on Saturday was not just criminal. It was evil. And we will never allow violence or anti-Semitism to take hold in the United States of America.”
Shifting gears to border security, Pence called a caravan of thousands of Central American migrants working their way toward the U.S. southern border an ‘assault on our country’ and that the Trump administration would not allow it.
“Today at the President’s direction, the Pentagon announced the United States would deploy and additional 5,200 soldiers to the southwest border of the United States to harden border security,” Pence said.
With the election a week away, both Schuette and James trail their Democrat opponents according to a recent poll, however, both have pulled to within single digits of their opponents in the past two weeks.
