A former police sergeant in Michigan who admitted to abusing prescription drugs he collected from several police agencies through pill take-back programs has reached a plea deal in the case. The Flint Journal reports 45-year-old ex-Burton officer Shawn Duncanson was arraigned Tuesday in Genesee County District Court and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of willful neglect of duty and use of a controlled substance.

A Nov. 7 hearing will determine how long he'll be on probation. He's also been ordered to relinquish his police officer certification as part of the plea agreement. Michigan State Police reports obtained by the newspaper through a Freedom of Information Act request alleged Duncanson approached multiple police agencies and offered to dispose of prescription drugs turned into their departments.

He resigned in June.
