City of Grand Rapids: Developers wanted for 201 Market Ave. SW

The City of Grand Rapids is looking for a developer to purchase what many consider a prime piece of downtown real estate.

Along the banks of the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids is a city-owned property located at 201 Market Avenue SW.

15.8 acres of riverfront space the City of Grand Rapids is marketing to what it calls qualified development teams.

Its hired real estate firm JLL to identify a shortlist of these development teams with the financial and technical abilities to deliver a large-scale mixed-use project.

Mayor Rosalynn Bliss says, “This is the most important city-owned redevelopment site on the Grand River,”

In a new release from city hall it reads, “The City envisions a redevelopment project that will leverage the Grand River as a critical infrastructure asset that will allow for expanded access, and that utilizes high-quality urban design principles that attract a variety of incomes and uses, creating a ‘hub of activity’ at the site.”

It also states, “Responses to the Request for Qualifications are due Friday, March 31, 2017.”
