Motorcycle engines will soon roar on the slopes of Mount Garfield in Muskegon as they have for decades.

MLive reports that the Muskegon Motorcycle Club will host the 2016 All Star Pro Hill Climb this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. with festivities beginning at noon on Friday.

The hill climb is a tradition in Muskegon County, an area that has a deep, rich history with motorcycles.

Dan Raymond opened the Raymond Motor & Cycle Company in Muskegon in 1919 and organized the club in 1920.

The following year, he leased nearby sand dune Mount Garfield with the idea of hosting a hill climb.

More than 3,000 people attended the hill climb in 1923, the same year the 40-acre site was purchased.

The location is the host of a National Hill Climb every other August.
