Three Grand Rapids parks receive a more-than $800,000 facelift.
City officials formally broke ground on renovations at Douglas, Mulick and Camelot parks today.
Upgrades include new picnic areas, benches and bike racks, and improved walking paths.
The city’s Mulick Park also receives ballfield renovations and a new 'tot-lot' play area for young children.
The $812,064 in funding comes from the city’s parks millage, which was approved by city voters in November 2013.
Construction at the three parks was previously postponed until July, after higher-than-expected costs of earlier park renovations left the city with a funding deficit.
Officials say all renovations should be completed by mid-October.
