$1.1M project underway along downtown Muskegon waterfront

Hilary Farrell

Work is underway on a roughly $1.1 million project to transform the waterfront parks in downtown Muskegon.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports that $710,000 will be invested in a handicap-accessible playground, fishing bridge and kayak launch at the new Rotary Park.

The playground was installed Monday and is set to open later this summer along with the rest of the park.

At the outdoor concert venue, Heritage Landing, $243,000 is being used to create a dock that will allow cruise ships to stop several times this summer.

The venue also will get a new ticket booth worth $128,150 and about $80,700 in electric and water upgrades.

Muskegon County could seek a $2.5 million grant for improvements at the Port of Muskegon.
