Grand Rapids hopes to boost opportunities for food truck vendors and entrepreneurs.

The proposal changes some requirements for food trucks operating in the city of Grand Rapids, with the goal of expanding the growing market segment for business and passers-by alike.

If approved, it would open up certain public areas and right-of-ways for mobile vendor operations. Other changes would streamline food truck permitting and other regulations.

A two-year pilot is proposed to start.

The suggestions grew from surveys of local food truck operators as well as an input and focus group of vendors, business interests and various city agencies.

City Commission reviews the proposal Tuesday morning and a public hearing is expected later this month.
